Hangzhou PM Research Institute, set up in 1963, takes the lead in the industries of friction materials and powder metallurgy in china. It has advanced research equipments and production facilities, complete means of testing and inspection, reliable quality guarantee systems (ISO9002) and powerful R&D force. It has been engaging in researching and producing various copper-base friction materials, iron-base friction materials, non-asbestos paper-base friction materials, molded graphitic friction materials, elastomeric friction materials, semi-metal friction materials, reaction plates, PM parts, anti-friction materials and speicial testing & inspecting equipment for PM materials as well, while doing business and giving service to 400-odd end users both in china and abroad.
PM friction products quality control center of the ministry of machine building industry was set up in the institute, which is the autorized institution on quality supervision and inspection of PM friction products in china.
It owns 1 imported automatic sprinkling-sintered production line, 1 pressing-sintered production line, 1 PM parts production line, 1 electroplate production line, 42 metal-cutting and electric machines, 60 equipments for testing and inspection, of which computer controlled friction & wear performance test benches. The entire technological process of sinter is controlled by computer.
Paper Friction Materials Intermediate Test Base of zhejiang invested by Zhejiang Provincial Government and Zhejiang Sci-tech Commission was built in the institute, specializing in researching, developing and manufacturing non-asbestos paper friction materials. It has an annual production capacity of one million pieces of paper friction disc.
The friction materials developed by the institute has been widely used in the field of various clutch and brake applications, such as marine gearbox, constructional machinery, agricultural machinery, mining machinery, carry-scraper & fork-lift, general machinery, forging presses, automotive, heavy-duty vehicle, military, high railway, variable speed clutch, machine electromagnetic clutches. And the PM parts has been widely used in marine gearbox, diesel engine, motorcycle, electric tools.
In the past over 30 years since its foundation, the institute has completed more than 300 projects assigned by state, ministry, province and municipality respectively, many of which had won state or municipal government excellent sci-tech awards.
Many PM standards of state and industry were drawn up or compilled by the institute and put in practice.
